This feature film spin-off of the hugely popular television series definitely has an eye-opening start but after that it tends to be all downhill.
FBI agents Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) find that there's conspiracy afoot after an iceman is found beneath the ground near a Texas suburb. They look into the fact there may be aliens involved only to get pushed away by the government and others looking to cover up the truth (which, alas, is "out there").
Admittedly, I am not a fan of the show; but this movie certainly won't help to convert me because it's so silly and sketchily plotted at times I found my mind drifting and by the time the weak finale rolled around I was stuck in dullsville. The leads do well and it's always cool to see Terry "Stepfather" O'Quinn; but this just can't hold your attention too well and gets tripped-up by a script that's trying to be too elaborate.
If you're a fan go ahead and watch, if not you can miss it even if the alien monster rocks and is one effective killing machine. (Chris Hartley)
