Man, after seeing this do I need a shower!

Indie effort from Montreal, Canada tells the very basic story of four flesh-munching psychopathic cannibals who are killing and eating various people in the city and the cop who's on their trail.

Questionable effort is, like this year's fellow indie effort Rot; anti-social, ugly and at times difficult to watch but at least it's done with more talent than that one.

Apparent "homage" to Itallian gore flicks, but much more brutally realistic and grim, this is one hard-to-take ride. Sure, there's an amazing (if depressing and disturbing) last third that has them torturing the detectives wife; but to get there we have to wallow through such depravity as a genital spit-up and baby fetus eating.

You just have to question what was running through the minds of director Michaud and co-writer Grenier to make a film that leaves you feeling dirty; but perhaps that was their intent.

Can't say I enjoyed it, but I do give it credit being so damn risky (though in turn it limits its audience). Filmed in 1997, this review is based on a "preliminary editing" cut; which may attribute to it being grainy and with weak sound recording (and that doesn't help when you have to deal with some heavy French-Canadian accents also).
