Somewhat notorious Troma release isn't the jokey, juvenile and gorily silly stuff you'd expect from them but a totally bizarre, totally engrossing and at times offensively crude effort from writer/director Chad Ferrin that has Roger Cline getting into a car accident with his wife and teenage daughter that ends-up killing his child and deforming/paralyzing his wife.
Pretty soon he starts to have insane visions of his daughter (who it turns out he may have "loved" a bit too much) telling him that God is keeping them apart. This causes him to go bonkers and start cutting up various prostitutes because he thinks it'll help bring her back (and get back at God for taking her away).
This is certainly a difficult film to sit through as it attacks lots of "heavy" targets (religion being the obvious one) with a somewhat nihilistic viewpoint while pilling on the sleaze, somewhat realistic gore and a few disturbing moments (such as a unsettling suicide scene) - it's certainly not a pleasant ride. Ferrin throws out lots of interesting viewpoints between some moments of demented humour and general depravity and the movie is actually much better acted than you'd expect (Wolf Dangler, yeah that's his real name, is great as the local pimp/drug dealer, Hell).
As a debut feature Ferrin oversteps all boundaries of taste and comes out with an oddly compelling movie. Kudos to Troma for having the guts to put it out. (Chris Hartley, 5/1/04)
