2000 - 85m.

Homage, satire and parody all in one this nod to the twenty-fifth anniversary of 1975's Jaws replaces the great white shark with a great white pine that's terrorizing the small town of Hazelwood and leads to a park ranger, scientist and grizzled hunter to go after the nasty tree.

Professional looking effort from writer/director Pleckaitis gets a bit too dopey in the finale but amuses, pleases and entertains as it constantly offers up twisted takes on moments in Jaws (including a hilarious "let's open it up and see what it's eaten" scene in which they unearth a tape cannister reading "Witch Project" and toss it aside uncaringly) and has a good cast that will have you wondering just how they managed to keep a straight-face during all the silly goings-on at hand.

Harmless love letter to the source material that's acceptable and (best of all) fun. See if you can keep a straight face when the town mayor blames the deaths on lawnmowers and you just gotta love that "tree vision" camera. Recommended.
