Blade Runner inspired sci-fi/horror was one of the first of Full Moon's flagship series (this was made when they were still Empire Pictures) and it stars Tim Thomerson as a bad-ass rebel "trancer hunter" Jack Deth who is sent back from the future to modern day to take on a slew of "trancers" (they're basically mindless zombies out to kill him) and protect the relatives of the high council from being killed by baddie Whistler (Michael Stefani). Along the way he hooks up with younger woman Helen Hunt (in a very early role) who helps him out.
With an inventive premise and lots of memorable moments (such as when he beats-up a guy in a Santa suit) this is a perfect example of a B-movie done right and one of Full Moon/Empire's best films. Comedian Thomerson is perfect in the lead (with his trenchcoat, one-liners and slicked back hair), there's some witty dialogue (like when Thomerson quips, "nice tan, very Christmas-y" to a tanning salon employee) and most of all its fun viewing. Sure the finale could have used more excitement but that's a minor thing.
Followed by five sequels.
