Directorial debut for Michael Soavi (who later go on to do what I consider one of the best Itallian horror flicks of the 90's with Cemetery Man) is a decent slasher flick that opens with a murderous ruse that soon turns into a dance number as a bunch of actors preparing to put on a play based on the killings done by a former actor gone crazy soon find themselves being killed off by what appears to be the same actor who's escaped from the asylum with murder in mind.
With a not bad premise and a more well-fleshed out story than most slashers this had enough okay thrills and killings to please fans of this type of movie despite the fact the gore factor is pretty light for the first half, there's really no-one to root for and the final scene (with the "heroine" going back to get her watch) is lame.
The owl head mask the killer wears is pretty good, it's directed steadily, there's a highly effective moment set in a shower and a pleasing "drill through the door" moment.
