A surprisingly fresh and entertaining horror entry.
A young princess isn't pleased when her father Sam Neill marries Sigourney Weaver but little did she suspect that her new mother-in-law is really quite wicked and wants to murder her to be eternally young.
Twisted reworking of the classic fairy tale is miles away from the "sweetening" that Disney pulled for its animated feature and because of its stellar set design, eerie and gothic mood, stylish direction and top-notch acting (especially Weaver who is gleefully malicious) this is an excellently scripted and interesting film that relies on its engrossing script and some pleasingly black-hearted scenes to be a under-appreciated gem of a movie. See it.
