1982 - 76m.

Exploitation slasher flick received flack at the time of its release for its attitude towards women but was actually written by feminist Rita Mae Brown.

While this is a bit dated today the story of a bunch of high school girls being stalked and killed by power drill wielding escaped psychopath Russ Thorn (Michael Villella, who's convincing and steely in his role) one night during a slumber party this is actually one of the better 80's slasher films out there.

Completely watchable low-budgeter has a likeable enough cast and should be credited for actually having teen characters that are decently written (a fault most slashers suffer from). Throw in some decent stalking scenes (the locker room one for example), a bunch of decent deaths, one memorable "fridge" moment and a totally grisly and shocking finale and you have this hidden gem. Also of interest is the fact writer Brown and director Amy Jones tend to use the killer's drill as a phallic symbol.

Followed by two sequels.
