2001 - 74m.

Florida-shot anthology from Twisted Illusions (the guys behind the Truth Or Dare? movies) and Wet Floor Productions has your usual wrap-around story telling the three tales within. Bill Cassinelli (who also co-wrote and did effects) stars as an unemployed man who goes to an agency run by nutty Joel D. Wynkoop (adding to his "nutty" roles resume) who tells him the three stories within (with him as the star).

The first tale has him running down a little girl in his car and being haunted by a gaggle of dolls. Playing with no dialogue apart from some creepy doll whispering, this is the best tale here with a certainly likeable idea and decent twist (despite Casinelli's weak looks of fear - "oh no, he's gonna hurl!").

Secondly is an astral projection tale that's totally unserious in tone as a loser bookstore employee learns of the feat and uses it to try and get meanie Lindsay Horgan (who plays the complete bitch perfectly) to fall in love with him. It's a mildly interesting idea but plays a bit too dull.

And the last tale has Casinelli playing a bad scriptwriter who after numerous failed attempts at selling his hack-like scripts finds himself meeting horror master Edgar Alan Poe - or is he? It's the most comedic tale here and has a twist that certainly tries hard, but it's just no satisfying enough.

Overall though, we have a dopey shoe-string budgeted effort from Casinelli and director/co-writer Michael A. Hoffman that certainly tries hard but never quite hits its mark. As is an okay first effort, but these two could probably come up with something better in the future given the chance. Love the outtakes in the closing credits (though it's becoming sort of the norm for indie films to do).

Hoffman has informed us that he's had to recut the film to contain more nudity, which is a shame because the cut I saw had none and was refreshingly exploitation free (a nice feat).

Followed by a sequel.
