Comedic take on Night Of The Living Dead (that started its life as a sequel to that film with an original story co-written by John Russo and Russell Streiner - who worked on NOTLD) is a total tongue-in-cheek time as two workers at a medical supply company accidently crack open a cannister owned by the Military that's filled with toxic chemicals (and a rotted corpse) that soon get into the air and start bringing the dead back to life craving "brraaiinnns!". Too bad for them, and the punker teens that are partying there, there's a cemetery right next door.
Campy B-movie feeling entertainment certainly deserves its status as a cult classic as it's loaded with subtle in-jokes (I like they called the graveyard "Resurrection Cemetery" and if you look closely at the eye chart in the medical supply office it spells out a sentence), lots of zombie attacks, a quick enough pace and lots of goofing around by the cast. Plus it also contains the famous Linnea Quigley nekkid dance.
Not quite enough gore but jokes galore and I would've liked more zombie mayhem but what's on hand manages to please with a kick-ass "Tar-Man" zombie, a good "police barracade" assault, a funny "send more paramedics" moment, a great soundtrack and a ending that's pretty good.
Not the greatest horror/comedy out there but fun viewing and certainly better than its follow-ups.
Followed by two sequels.
