1966 - 90m.
Britain

Another mixed-bag Hammer Films production about a young couple moving to a small country town after inheriting the husband's brother's house (after his strange death) and finding that people are showing-up dead in town and that a weird scientist and his daughter may have something to do with it.

After a mysterious opening this settles down into a mostly well acted effort with good production values and some mood only to fall victim to its slower-pace and the fact the title monster doesn't show-up until an hour in. Michael Ripper is a stand-out as the local pub owner but this is mostly thick on melodrama and low on impact.

A mite tedious with so-so make-up and a homeless character who's apparently "comedic" bumbling only helps to hinder the story. Overall this is decent for the way it looks and plays at times but by the time the finale rolls around you just may not care a heck of a lot.

Available from Anchor Bay with the quite amusing double trailer for this and Rasputin:The Mad Monk tacked-on at the end.
