2000 - 100m.

After you get past the clever packaging (that passes this off as a top secret FBI tape) you'll find this is another indie Blair Witch wannabe from Sub Rosa Studios and director/writer Ron Bonk (who did the above average Vicious Sweet in 1997).

Passing itself off as tapes filmed by a twenty-something filmmaker who was hired to enter the title abandoned building only for him and everyone with him to go either missing or end-up dead; this effort gets high marks for working on a solid backstory (even gets into more detail than Blair Witch did - one of that films weaknesses) and comes-up with a decent finale (and a pay-off that comes pretty damn close to bumping the rating to a ***). There's the expected talky and slow moments and the horror is a tad sluggish but for ambition you can't get much better than this, even if the story seems flawed at times.

Like a lot of indie movies of the past years it goes the Blair Witch route (meaning it's a cheap yet effective way to hide no-budget and amateurish acting) but actually comes-out with a movie that works fine and has okay acting to boot (hey, at least it's not one of the pathetic spoofs that flooded the market). Worthwhile for a change of pace and another good effort under Bonk's filmmaking belt. Recommended.
