2001 - 94m.

Made-for-cable horror flick plays on peoples fear of rodents for this "killer rat" romp from director John Lafia (who made Child's Play 2 and Man's Best Friend).

Madchen Amick is the operations manager for a posh New York department store who calls in descreet exterminator Vincent Spano (who's quite winning and suited in his role) to get rid of an apparent rat problem. However it seems the rat problem is bigger than anyone could have anticipated as New York is soon getting overrun by the creatures.

This is watchable stuff with a fairly quick pace that makes for dopey B-movie entertainment if you don't take it too seriously and you can forgive the so-so finale (the gives a poor explanation for why the rats are attacking).

The script by Frank Deasy at least feels like he did some research and there's some okay attack scenes (the first one has a decent "ear rip" moment) although you get some unintentional laughs when the film trots out its Jaws homage at the public swimming pool.
