Winona Ryder plays a young woman who was once possessed by a demon who's convinced that Satan will soon be returning to Earth in a body created from incest. She learns from a cryptic number code that true crime author Ben Chaplin may just be this person and she has to convince him of this as they both are plagued by evil visions and various other nutty happenings.
Directorial debut by cinematographer Kaminski (it's quite evident he was a cinematographer first because of all the odd camera angles and shots used) is packed with plenty of strange events and plays at an okay pace with mild interest even if the Catholic exorcism mumbo jumbo on hand eventually overwhelms it in the finale.
The two leads do okay and it's a mostly solid religious horror despite the fact it gets too heavy-handed in the last third and has a way too sloppy finish with a couple of far-fetched twists. Nothing special for the most part.
Just ask yourself why it was necessary to snap the neck of Elias Koteas when he attempts to kill Chaplin though.
