Get over the fact this movie proclaims on the box that one of the writers involved in Anaconda co-wrote this and settle down for what turns out to be a quite fun and entertaining low-budget monster movie.
Nineteen years after their eggs have been dumped-off on a distant island some Komodo dragons are quite full grown and quite angry. Along comes teenager Patrick (Kevin Zegers) and his therapist (Jill Hennesy); seems our boy saw his parents and dog killed by a komodo a little while back. Well I guess he'll really have to face his fears when him, his therapist and gruff security man Billy Burke are attacked by hordes of the lizard beasts.
Filled with enough cheap thrills to please even if it is a bit dopey, this starts off with an impressive first appearance of the beasts (the family dog is eaten through a doggie door), has some okay moments of tension and sports a good cast.
Sure the komodos look a bit rubbery at times but they're actually pretty decent for the most part. The only scripting flub is that Zegers' character disappears only for the other cast members to seemingly forget about him until the finale (when our boys gone kind of feral).
Recommended for those unserious evenings.
