2001 - 85m.

That's right mull over the title for a few seconds.

Bizarre Ontario made comedy/horror that stars Phil Caracas as our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, who comes to modern day to take on a batch of vampires with the help of legendary masked Mexican wrestler El Santos. Did I mention that Jesus also takes on a punk rock like look and is quite skilled at the martial arts?

Professional looking independent effort that's competely tongue-in-cheek and makes you think of 1993's Cannibal! The Musical only with a hint of blasphemy and only a mere one musical number.

Creative stuff gets a little chaotic at times but works pretty well thanks to plenty film homages (the Saturday Night Fever one is the best - quite funny), cartoony karate battles with sound effects to match and a cast that's having fun with the material.

This could easily become a cult movie (and should be!) as it's wacky, strange and very entertaining. Maria Moulton makes a cute sidekick as Mary Magnum and the musical score is quite good.

Check out the amusing bar fight (where they use garlic pizza, toothpicks and blessed beer as weapons) and a joke taken from Toxic Avenger II where an endless parade of thugs keep coming from a baddies cars. Recommended.
