1990 - 113m.

Since its release in 1990 this wigged-out horror/thriller has gained quite the strong following however for most (for me anyway) it may just be too bizarre to get involved in.

Tim Robbins stars as Jacob, a Vietnam vet who now works in the post office and is in a relationship with moody Elizabeth Pena (who plays the "bitch" role perfectly). He starts to question his sanity when he begins to have all sorts of hallucinations (in which he sees monsterous figures with deformed heads and the like) and flashbacks to 'Nam and the child he lost at an early age (played by a pre-Home Alone fame Macualay Culkin).

Director Adrian Lyne certainly works hard at trying to keep you off balance and it works to moderation with some scenes getting under your skin but it just doesn't pan out because the narrative just seems to jump about too much and the film doesn't seem to explore some of its themes enough (like all the demonic creatures aren't given enough insight). Also it's oddly alienating because you just can't seem to get caught up in the tale at hand.

Overall this is a flawed effort that has some moments of greatness but just can't get a grip of it's disjointed script.
