You'd think that with noted exploitation director Franco at the helm this loose telling of the legend of 18th century serial killer "Jack The Ripper" would turn out awful, well surprise, it's not that bad.

Klaus Kinski takes the role as the mysterious killer who when not running his small doctor's office is out picking up ladies of the night and slaughtering them due to his serious issues with the female species.

Get over the weaker dubbing, slower lulls and the fact this feels a bit long in the tooth and you'll find that Franco's take, while not historically sound, is actually pretty good and somewhat classy.

It helps to have a lead actor in who can just see the nastiness and Kinski does it well (his odd features and piercing blue eyes also help).

Lots of the expected nudity and (at times ridiculous) gore from our man Jess with the killing in the forest where Kinski simulates sexual penetration with his knife managing to be a bit unnerving.
