This sequel to the amusing semi-cult original goes for an even more comedic approach as our title serial killer-turned-killer-snowman-with-morphing-abilities returns to go after sheriff Christopher Allport (who stopped him in the original) who he tracks down to a tropical island resort (he doesn't melt because of some sloppily explained "mutation") and proceeds to "chill" and "kill" once again.
Low-rent stuff certainly had me scratching my head as this is much more juvenile and hammy than the original (which is quite a feat) while looking much lower budgeted than the first (which is evident in the almost non-existant production design) and certainly being much tamer (no "face ornament squish" this time kiddies).
More than anything this is a pretty painful whole lotta dumb as it tries in vain to have a kind of elbow in the ribs "wittiness" about it by giving our buddy Jack a whole slew of lame one-liners (not to mention barely any screen time - and when he is on screen the effects are even worse!), having some Critters inspired tomfoolery (when the lame "baby snowball" creatures romp in the kitchen area) and just generally having a smartass tone.
Considering the original stretched a one-line premise as far as it could you pretty much know what to expect here though the "snowball fight" moment is mildly amusing as is the "box of Jack" moment in the finale. Even those who liked the original will shake their heads as this inane effort. Gets in its Godzilla homage in the end credits.
Hard to believe writer/director Michael Cooney would go on to write the excellent Identity.
