1999 - 92m.

Remember the possessed hand scene in 1987's Evil Dead II? Well, Idle Hands takes that scene and plays it for morbid humour and while there are a few okay deaths, the effects are fairly decent, and there's some pleasing clowning around in the end this is a passable time with not enough laughs or horror to work.

Devon Sawa (who gets to slapstick it up, and does okay for the most part) plays a goal-less couch potato stoner who finds his hand possessed by an Ancient demon (somehow, it's never explained) and he proceeds to start killing people around the neighbourhood. He even murders best friends Seth Green and Elden Henson only for them to come back as undead comic relief (in fact they're probably the only reason to watch this) and to help him try to stop this hand from causing more havoc. Also in the mix is Vivica A. Fox as a kick-ass nun out to kill the demon and Jessica Alba (who'd go on to TV's Dark Angel) as the love interest.

Like I said before, it's not all a loss here but there's just not enough to make this a worthwhile time and there's a lot better horror/comedies out there - this is just a loosely plotted, overly silly (check out the ridiculous "hand puppet" scene for proof), and mindless misfire.

One character utters "That's it?" in the finale and it pretty much sums up the entire movie. (Chris Hartley, 9/26/04)
