1999 - 93m.

Remake of the 1958 campy original has Geoffrey Rush as amusement park owner and showman Steven Price (a character loosely based on the original's director William Castle and star Vincent Price) inviting five people to a remote castle-like former mental asylum and offering them a million dollars if they can survive the night. Little does he realize that the place may just be haunted.

Fairly entertaining stuff is stylishly directed by Malone with some neat production design and manages to be mostly fun with some creepy mood despite the fact there's some plot holes (but remember we're not really supposed to be taking this that seriously anyway).

Quickly paced with an okay cast (Rush is suited to his role) even if the ghosts show-up later than I'd have liked and they're not grandly impressive. Some okay gore, a couple of moments of unsettling imagery and an effective "inmates running the asylum" opening helps make this a decent time, if nothing overly innovative.
