1978 - 84m.

French director Jean Rollin is probably most known for his 1980 film Zombie Lake and his various erotic vampire movies.

This is his attempt at a zombie movie as the inhabitants of the French countryside are being turned into flesh-hungry rotting zombies after they drink some wine made out of grapes that have been sprayed with a deadly pesticide. Marie-Georges Pascal finds herself on the run from the zombies (as is evident by the tons of running time padding that has her fleeing constantly through fields and in cars) and has to try and find her finacee while being attacked in every town she comes upon.

For a long time this was only available on a lousy looking Video Search Of Miami video but thanks to Synapse fans of Rollin's work can get this on a newly restored DVD. What you will get is a loosely plotted gore flick that may have some alright grue (such as when a blind girl is pinned to a door and beheaded), competent direction and a sequence where the zombies take over a town that's okay; but generally this lacks any sort of menace or tension and is quite a drag because it's just so damn dull going.

You don't see many French made splatter flicks, this is a good reason why not. For Rollin's fans only.
