"Giant Monsters All-Out Mess" would be a more appropriate title for this Godzilla yarn, another one of Toho studios newer entries in its long running series.

Godzilla rises again to destroy Tokyo ("Why doesn't he pick on another country?") and it's up to Baragon, Mothra, and King Ghidorah ("It's like a monster convention here!") to save the day.

I hate to say it but there's so many things wrong here I have no idea where to begin. What could have been one of the ultimate Godzilla movies turns into an array of jumbled ideas involving the supernatural, guardian monsters, mythology, CGI and too much cartoon silliness.

Forty minutes pass until you get a decent look at any of the monsters and aside from the big guy himself, all look really disappointing. Baragon wouldn't be out of place in a Power Rangers episode just as a colorful, CGI Mothra looks like he came from one of Pink Floyd's psychedelic light shows. Even King Ghidorah looks completely unmenacing.

Throw in that fact any hint of logic is nonexistant (why someone would choose a bicycle over a car when chasing Godzilla is beyond me) and you've got one frustrating movie that you really want to love but can't help but be let down with.

Some of the battle and destruction scenes are quite good and the "spring-a-leak" ending is worth an honest laugh but that doesn't detour this from being one of the sloppier Godzilla outings. (Derek Carlson, 6/15/04)
