1958 - 79m.
Britain

The Atomic bomb scare premise so over-used in 50's sci-fi monster movies pops its ugly little head up again as a giant reptile awoken by the bombs goes on a rampage in typical destroying fashion (in what could be called Britain's answer to the original Godzilla movie).

Director Lourie's second of three "rampaging monster" movies (the others being Beast From 20,000 Fathoms and Gorgo) has the usual skippable elements with plenty of scientific jargon, talky stretches and a pace that makes this not that terribly exciting. Throw in the fact that it's almost an hour in before we get a real good look at the monster (effects that range from okay to low-grade for most of the movie) and the street rampage, while the best moment here, feels only so-so with plenty of recycled shots of cars getting crushed underfoot.

Check out the monster swimming to see some bad effects! For fans of 50's horror/sci-fi only.

Best moment: when a dying sailor mutters "behemoth!" and it's lookout world!
