1989 - 108m.

Disappointing sequel to the smash 1984 hit has the Ghostbusters now working children's birthday parties and trying to recover from all the bills the city gave them for saving their hides only for them to find themselves back in action when it turns out there's a river of pink slime running underneath the streets of New York City that's feeding off all the negative energy in the air that is somehow tied to a evil painting at the local museum.

All the cast returns and they're still likeable (Bill Murray is still deadpan and sarcastically funny) but this just can't rise above mediocre due to a script that just doesn't seem to have as much heart in it, is lacking the wit of the original and seems to be trying a bit too hard.

Sure, it's a bearable time with lots of cameos and in-jokes (such as having Cannibal Girls playing at one of the movie theatres - it was director Ivan Reitman's first movie) but it's just too silly to work especially during the dopey "Statue of Liberty" moment and junky finale. Peter MacNicol is fairly annoying as the museum art restorer with a poor fake accent also.

This just doesn't have the charm or entertainment of the first one.
