1984 - 105m.

One of the 80s biggest comedy hits has Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis starring as three scientist friends who are kicked out of college and have their grants taken away who decide to form a new business that involves capturing ghosts. It's a good thing they've decided to do that as an evil force is trying to overrun New York and open a gateway to Hell.

While it's a little dated today this has one great cast (that also includes Sigourney Weaver as their first client and Rick Moranis as a geeky neighbour), is pretty creative and has decent effects (though the "demon dogs" haven't aged too well - they're so-so).

Murray is perfectly deadpan (and sarcastic) in his role and steals the movie and despite the finale being a bit weak (even with its priceless "Stay Puft Marshmellow Man") it's certainly silly enough to entertain though it has lost some of the childhood charm I remember from originally seeing it when I was ten.

Ramis would go on to be a productive comedy director, director Ivan Reitman became a comedy filmmaking force because of this and it was followed by a sequel, multiple merchandise and two Saturday morning cartoon series.
