2001 - 122m.

Another take on Jack The Ripper set in 1888 London where opium-addicted (and apparently psychic) police inspector Johnny Depp has to try and find the identity and hunt down the person who is killing local prostitutes and mutilating them while on the side he's fallen for streetwalker Heather Graham who is at risk of becoming the next victim.

While directed with style by the Hughes brothers (who are far away from their previous urban themed films) this is pretty gory at times and has great production design but suffers from a script that's sort of heavy-handed and uninteresting; the fact we could care less about the story and all the characters in it and the film is just too slowly paced and dull to have any sort of building of suspense.

Depp is his usual steady self while Graham plays a character that feels mostly pointless and lacking a purpose to the story. A disappointing horror-thriller that has the style but lacks in story. Based on a graphic novel.

Directed By: Albert Hughes, Allen Hughes.
Written By: Terry Hayes, Rafael Yglesias.

Starring: Johnny Depp, Ian Holm, Robbie Coltrane, Ian Richardson.
