2001 - 100m.

Bill Paxton (known to genre fans for Aliens and Near Dark) makes his directorial debut with this critically acclaimed horror-thriller that has the police hunting for a serial killer dubbed "The God's Hand Killer". Along comes Matthew McConaughey who tells a detective in flashback about his life in 1979 when his single father (Paxton) tells him and his younger brother one day that he's been appointed by God to kill "demons" (just regular people chosen from the phone book) using three "magical" weapons (a shovel, axe and pipe by any other name).

What follows is a dark, pretty unsettling and grisly look at insanity as Paxton murders people while making his kids not only watch but also participate even resorting to torturing them when they question his actions.

This quiet film is strongly made, hard to watch at times and very well done and while it can't be recommended for entertainment value it is for being such an engrossing film with one Hell of a twist finish.
