If you were beginning to think that the teen horror trend has outstayed its welcome and had nothing fresh to offer then perhaps you should give this one a look.
Devon Sawa is going on a trip with his French class to Paris only to get a vision of the plane they're on exploding in a ball of flame. Well much to the his and the people who got dragged off the plane with him's surprise it happens. So the group has to spend the rest of the movie "cheating death" which is portrayed as a supernatural like being while Sawa tries to figure out its pattern and beat it at its game.
This one is a winner right from the opening scenes that give off a creepy and omnious mood to the kinda silly but still neat finale to the ironic closing shot. Highly watchable and way better than most teen horror flicks just because it has a script that not only manages to be partly engrossing but also because it sports some brains while it's at it.
With good acting by the young leads, stylish direction, a premise that's interesting and some really cool death scenes (such as the teachers "whatever bad can happen does" demise and one cool decapitation scene) this one is way above most of its type. Director/co-writer Wong has made a fun ride.
One teacher is called Val Lewton; a homage to the 40's director who made such creepy classics as Cat People.
