2003 - 90m.

It's Halloween night and a small batch of friends in a small Texas town decide to head off into the woods to take on the legend of the "Fanglady" (who's a soul stealing witch that preys on people dumb enough to go into the woods late at night) only for it all to be true as she really exists and has brought along her murderous retarded son to help her.

Even though this low-budgeter starts to hit its stride in the final third it's not quite enough to overcome the dull first two-thirds and a main plot angle ("Fanglady") that, in the end, seems to barely matter to the story.

Throw in the fact that the DVD box promises a cannibalistic family in the vein of Texas Chainsaw Massacre (and fails to deliver at all on that promise), the acting borders on amateurish a bit too much at times, and that most of the horror sequences feel clumsily staged and you have this skippable effort.

It's almost like writer-director Christopher Abram (who also casts himself as the witch's son) wasn't sure what he was going for here as the movie stumbles between being overly jokey (which doesn't really work) and attempting to be harrowing in its delivery (which at least gives us one mildly effective scene involving a female hostage in the finale).

It's certainly not the worst indie effort out there, but it's nothing you'd want to go out of your way to watch.

DVD INFORMATION

Picture Ratio: Full Frame.

Picture Quality: Pretty acceptable looking transfer here that's not crystal clear or anything but manages to be better than watching it on VHS.

Extras: The extras here are a fairly enjoyable batch with a trailer (plus trailers for Vampires Vs. Zombies, The Red Right Hand, and St. John's Wort), outtakes, some deleted scenes, and a pretty informative "making of" featurette (although they mention an early scene, that thankfully didn't make the movie, involving urinating on a gravestone that's taken directly from Dead Alive).
