2002 - 95m.
Hong Kong

Highly acclaimed supernatural horror import stars Lee Sin-Je as a woman who after eighteen years of blindness has her sight restored. As if it wasn't hard enough for her to try and adjust to becoming a seeing member of society she's soon seeing all sorts of weird visions and ghosts when it turns out her transplanted cornea's belonged to a psychic girl who was dubbed a "witch" and killed.

Leisurely starting effort is certainly directed with a nice visual style by the Pang Brothers and sports some good ideas and spooky mood it just doesn't feel as "scary" or "thrilling" as it could've been despite one heck of a cool finish (that has nice parallels to prior events) and a few striking moments (the elevator moment is pretty wild).

Overall this is a well-acted and made film that manages to satisfy and disappoint at the same time - it's a good premise, it's all around competent but like I said before, it not as suspenseful as I'd of liked. Still, I recommend you see it as it's a worthwhile timewaster and is at least more interesting than a lot of horror films that are coming out lately.

DVD INFORMATION

Picture Ratio: 1.85:1 Widescreen.

Picture Quality: While oddly not as crisp and clear as its North American counterparts and with a tad of grain this is still a solid transfer.

Extras: Considering the "hype" surrounding Lions Gate releasing it over here all we get are a trailer, a TV spot and an alright "making of" featurette. There's also previews for 3 non-horror films. I suppose it could've been worse, I mean look at Dreamworks' release of Ringu.
