1998 - 95m.

Alcoholic couple Alison Elliott and Jared Harris head to Ireland with their young son to visit Elliott's grandmother. While at the house with granny, uncle Christopher Walken (sporting a very weak accent) and orphan Rachel O'Rourke; Elliott starts to have visions and act strangely. However, this could do with the fact that uncle Chris has the mummified corpse of a witch he dug out of the bog in the basement. And take one guess what happens when said witch comes back to life (and happens to look exactly like Elliott, which leads to plenty of confusion).

Director/writer Almereyda has crafted a very strange and eccentric film that sometimes gets shaky in its scripting but is still interesting, odd and quite compelling. For most of its running time it's quiet and not a heck of a lot happens, but once the mummy comes back (Elliott does fine in both roles) it starts to pick-up some as we're treated to some decent plot twists and a couple of decent deaths (including someone being punctured with pieces of a vinyl record).

Recommended for a nice change of pace. O'Rourke is the stand-out here and is given voice-over narration that goes well with the story. Harris does a killer Walken impersonation.
