1999 - 122m.

Admittedly I had to have been one of the few people who thought the idea of Arnie versus the Devil might turn out okay. Boy, was I wrong.

Three days before the upcoming Millenium ex-cop Arnold Schwarzenegger gets mixed-up with plenty of nasty goings-on when he has to protect twenty-year-old Robin Tunney from some priest hitmen (yeah right, I know...) and Satan in human form (Gabriel Byrne) who wants her for his mate.

Director Hyams proved with The Relic that he knows how to do horror films, but now we can say he knows how to do awful horror films as well. While packed with way more gore than you'd expect from a big studio movie (including a "punch through the head" and gut ripping); this one turns out to be the worst big-budget horror film of the year.

Disjointed and messy with a ridiculous script; this just seems to drag on-and-on and is completely devoid of any thrills, plus it's really difficult to take Arnie in the title role (his "bad-ass" ticket was cashed-in years ago).

Not at all convincing and with a mean streak a mile wide it's safe to say Byrne's steely performance is the only thing here remotely worthwhile. Heck, this even manages to waste genre favourite Udo Kier!

If you must withstand the torture be sure to have a good laugh at the demonic pee, the completely hilarious "666" explaination and the totally rotten finale.

To recap: positives - Byrne, his anti-religion diatribe and a humourous "Satan rules" moment; negatives - the entire rest of the movie.
