2002 - 99m.

Tongue-in-cheek throwback to 1950's creature features has a bunch of spiders who have injested toxic waste from a barrel that fell off the back of a truck (an in-joke in itself) growing to massive sizes and threatening the residents of the small town of Prosperity, Arizona. It's up to loner (and just returned home) David Arquette and foxy sheriff Kari Wuhrer (along with conspiracy theorist Doug E. Doug and other town members) to try and stop the infestation.

This mediocre but bearable big-studio monster flick is certainly a mindless ride but thanks to decent computer effects, lots of genre in-jokes for fans; competent direction and performances and a final third that has some rockin' action sequences it manages to be an okay diversion.

Sometimes falls victim to its silliness (as witnessed in the "dirt bike attack" scene) but at least the cast has fun with Wuhrer faring well and Rick Overton practically stealing the show as the sort of inept deputy. Heck even Arquette isn't that annoying here - that job falls to the poor comic relief of Doug E. Doug.

Love the title; it's much better than the original one (Arac Attack).
