Firstly I must admit I do like Dimension Pictures. Yes this genre branch of major-minor studio Miramax is one of the few admittedly higher-class companies to keep producing horror films. They are responsible for the later Halloween, Hellraiser and Children Of The Corn movies as well as such interesting fare as The Prophecy and Phantoms. And let's not forget, of course, the Scream series. But they really need to do something about their poster art. I noticed this the other day when I was looking at the poster from their upcoming H20 film. Ever since Scream came out they have been recycling that poster. You've seen it, the cast all lined-up with some sort of "nasty thing" from the movie dimly in the background. Not only was it used in Scream and recycled for its sequels but it also popped up for Phantoms. Take the Scream poster, replace Neve Campbell with Jamie Lee Curtis. Replace the other actors and also remove ghostface in favour of the Myers mask, and viola! New poster. Not quite. Whatever happened to the old days of posters? Back in the 50's through the 70's we were assaulted with garish and colourful posters that announced the "terror" in store for the viewer, but at least they were original. So this is a call out to Dimension to continue putting out decent genre product but to hire someone new to create the posters.
