Debut feature from Landfall Productions starts off with an effective opening sequence (which sets a rather grim mood for a film that's dubbed a comedy on the box!) before telling the story of a group of naive young actors (led by cute Kathleen Taylor) who are invited to the house of a famous horror movie director to get a role in his latest film. Little do they realize that the party is the actual movie and soon enough guests start getting killed off by a psycho in a metal mask (and a pretty cool mask it is).
While this feels a bit thin on plot and the ending is a bit chaotic; this is still a good first effort from director/co-writer Eric G. Stacey that has a decent premise, acting by a newcomer cast that's above the level of most independent movies and some well done split-screen editing tricks. Admittedly there's not much horror going on for about the first hour or so, but the characters are fleshed-out enough to keep you interested.
Made for around fifty-thousand this certainly looks higher budgeted and is recommended viewing for those tired of conventional slashers. Stacey has said this is meant as a homage to Texas Chainsaw Massacre and that's quite evident in the finale and an early scene involving a weirdo hitchhiker.

Picture Quality: Despite a few moments of fuzziness when the film shifts to lower light this is a generally steady picture.
