1963 - 75m.

Known mostly as Francis Ford Coppola's first film (he who would helm such cinema classics as The Godfather and Apocalypse Now) this is an actually not bad slower-paced and quiet slasher/mystery.

Given twenty-thousand dollars by producer Roger Corman; Coppola headed to Ireland and filmed this tale set at the castle of an eccentric family where they still mourn the loss of a young daughter years prior and someone is going around hacking everyone up. It all has to do with a big inheritance, but like Psycho, the apparent main character doesn't quite figure into the picture as much as you'd expect.

After a decent pre-credits sequence this settles down and becomes a leisurely paced flick thats plot gets a tad messy at times but works mostly due to Coppola building a creepy atmosphere at times and sporting a classic horror sounding musical score.

Recommended for those looking into a great directors past. There's one really great shot within involving a hook.
