2003 - 88m.

On a night plagued with rolling blackouts (an idea that's sadly under-used), a local slumlord heads to a warehouse in Compton and is attacked by a strange beast. From there all sorts of mayhem errupts as said slumlord returns to his family and proceeds to turn them all into vampiric creatures with a taste for human flesh. Which is totally unlucky for the inner-city wannabe "gangstas" who've dropped by for a friendly "visit".

There's a spooky enough opening and the credits montage of family photos (and idea admittedly seen before) with its creepy theme music sets the mood but it's short lived as the script by David Birke is nothing more than sloppy because it's completely missing explanations, the characters are fairly unconvincing and the dialogue is fairly weak; but it's not all the fault of the script because the acting is fairly low-grade also and any attempts at humour in the script is lessened by the actors poor line delivery.

That's not to say it's all for naught as there's plenty of bizarre moments (one involving an unborn baby and another one involving a house cat), a chaotic finale that's not too bad and piles on some grue (love the hedgeclippers moment) and steady direction; but this just isn't that interesting because we're never really sure what the whole purpose of it is and there's ideas that aren't realized to their fullest.

It's not the worst horror movie out there, but it's nothing more than passable.
