Ugly-duckling Sissy Spacek has to deal with her abusive, religious fanatic mother Piper Laurie and the girls at school always picking on her, but it turns out she has telekinesis and on prom night uses it to take revenge on them all.

Strong performances by Spacek and Laurie, De Palma's stylish directorial touches and an impressive finale makes this effort based on Stephen King's novel shine.
