1974 - 77m.
Germany

Although the title of this flick makes it sound like a porn knockoff of Kubrick's classic, this is a lighthearted German sex comedy that it pretty tame by today's standards. I remember seeing this as a teen and, for whatever reason, it has remained quite vivid in my mind. This may be due to the fact that I had not seen much Eurotrash at the time or perhaps that the main girls in the film wear skintight silver suits and have silver hair. This is quite the contrast to the Bavarian setting in which the film takes place and although I have seen weird spacesuits in many b-movies from the 50's and 60's, they were rarely as sexy as these ones and the girls in those other movies never showed what was underneath. In this flick, there is nothing too graphic in the way of sex but there is nudity-a-plenty as all of the lovely ladies reveal themselves.

The movie opens with the girls onboard a spaceship where we learn that they are from Venus and are on a mission to collect sperm from human males. This is because Venus is like an Amazon planet as it consists only of females and they have almost used up their supply of fertilizer. The femaliens choose to make their landing in a German village where they are mistaken for a French ski team. Soon enough, they begin to mingle with the locals and learn first hand as to how human beings reproduce. Throughout their misadventures, they get themselves into some comical situations and also eventually take their clothes off. The film climaxes in a party scene where we see traditional German dancing and the space babes displaying the lingerie they discovered in their time on Earth.

This one is not going to win any Academy Awards but it is an innocent sex comedy that takes me back to the days when titillation was enough. I would much prefer to see a movie like this than to see the more graphic lesbian and sex scenes that dominate the sexy b-movies of the new millennium. It is much hotter seeing some cute European girls running around showing their boobs than watching the lingering close-ups in newer films that border on hardcore porn. In fact, the nudity in this film is almost secondary to the silly hijinks that the girls get up to. The actresses are obviously beautiful and pleasing to the eyes but this flick is almost more funny than arousing. I was reminded a lot of some of the silly softcore sex movies that have been released from Something Weird such as the Bethel Buckalew redneck flicks and many of the titles that Harry Novak produced. I guess corny would almost be the best way to describe the comedy with the token large oversexed housewife, the travelling salesman who gets lucky, and a pitchfork in the bum all making appearances.

It is great that Retro-Seduction Cinema picked this up and rescued it from obscurity. It is also really cool that they recognize that there is a market for these types of movies from fans who would like a little bit of titillation in their movies but would like to have a laugh as well. I never thought I would say that I think some movies go too far but I think Seduction Cinema's main titles are a little much for my taste as I grew up on 70's and 80's b-movies that had nudity but had a sense of fun that has been lost in recent years. I have talked about this in other reviews and I think this movie really made me realize that the sexy b-movies I enjoyed in the past were just that: sexy and not just sex. (Josh Pasnak, 1/13/10)

DVD INFORMATION
Seduction - February 21, 2006

Picture Ratio: Full Frame.

Picture Quality: Although slightly grainy, the film looks surprisingly good for its age and obscurity. I would imagine this came from a VHS master or something similar.

Extras: The biggest extra on this disc is a bonus feature film entitled Run, Virgin, Run. This is another German sex comedy from the early 70's and concerns a small town with the power to give older men the ability to continue to father children whenever the wind blows from the south. The men are not aware that the reason that their wives are so satisfied is because of the virility of a young blacksmith. This is all turned on its head when a young virgin arrives in town threatening to put an end to the blacksmith's extracurricular activities. I quite enjoyed this silly little comedy for what it was and like 2069, it features a number of attractive women in the buff and some comedic scenes bordering on slapstick. It is another great example of the subgenre.

In addition to the second feature the disc also contains trailers for other Seduction Cinema releases and some radio spots for Run, Virgin, Run. The radio spots are not presented with the usual audio over a still image but instead show Misty Mundae naked in the shower and bedroom. Only Seduction Cinema would come up with this type of presentation but I can't say I am complaining. The package also includes a short essay by Chris Poggiali about the drive-in experience that is a fun read.
