1965 - 72m.

The cover art on this flick is very similar to another re-released "nudie cutie" entitled The Sexploiters. They are both fairly pointless if you are not a fan of the genre but if I had a gun to my head and had to watch one of these a second time, I would choose this one. They both have a narrator describing all of the dubious events happening on screen but this one has a twist in that the narrator describes how a group of filmmakers are trying to write a movie about a group of characters and all of the hijinks they get up to. In a subgenre devoid of any artistic merit, it is nice that writer Charles Ross gives it the good old college try and makes an attempt to be original.

The movie revolves around the screenwriters trying to come up with a story involving a pair of girls named Liz (Lana Lynn) and Connie (Rusty Allen), one of whom will do whatever it takes to make it as an actress while the other attempts to succeed as a model. Liz is the more slutty one and Connie is more reserved but they both get up to some extremely brief naked shenanigans. After we are introduced to both characters, we see how each of them employ different tactics to move their lives forward. Liz goes old school and tries to sleep her way to the top by latching on to men in positions of power and using what God gave her to get certain favors in return. Connie is much more reserved and we see her trying to deal with issues she is having with her kind-of dick boyfriend. If this sounds fairly melodramatic, it is, and we are reminded a number of times throughout that this is a film-within-a-film in an attempt to make you think that the movie is more clever than it really is.

What I think happened here is that there was a movie made about Liz and Connie but when it was cut together, producer William Miskin (Fight for Your Life) probably realized that it would be difficult to sell in its short, sexless state. After he saw that the movie has minimal dialogue, he must have bumped the running time up with narration over numerous bland scenes he needed to add and then figured out that he could pad things further by filming the "producing team" arguing about the plot. He then went so far as to awkwardly add some color nude footage that was obviously taken from stag loops. These scenes are clearly just thrown in as a way to give the film more of a sexploitation edge to appeal to the raincoat crowd.

The most entertaining part of this flick is when Liz hooks up with an older, wealthy producer named Leslie. We see how Leslie lives the high life with his beach house and bevy of babes who surround him and it is funny to watch his drunk, washed up woman get increasingly desperate as she is replaced by the younger and fresher Liz. Although this part of the movie kept me interested, it is by no means worth going out of your way to see. The only selling points of this flick to completists are a brief appearance from Audrey Campbell (from the "Olga" movies) who strips at a party near the end of the flick and some of the inane dialogue that the narrator spouts out. Other than that, you can do much better if you are looking for a sexploitation flick. Writer Charles Ross also wrote The Wild, Wild World of Jayne Mansfield, a bizarre mondo film that combines sex footage with the tragedy that killed Jayne. (Josh Pasnak, 9/27/09)

DVD INFORMATION
Retro Seduction Cinema - January 29, 2008

Picture Ratio: Full Frame.

Picture Quality: The movie looks incredible considering its age and rarity. My only qualm is the color sequences which have that trashy sex loop look to them and make an otherwise great looking print look cheap.

Extras: First up, we get a series of four color loops running about ten minutes. I recognized some of this footage from the movie itself and there is nothing of note about it. Next, we have three TV commercials featuring Audrey Campbell. This is a cool rarity and it amazes me how companies like Retro Seduction and Something Weird find this stuff. We also get a second disc entitled "Naughty Nudes '65" that contains 11 scratched-up, black and white stag loops. I have never been able to get into these but I can imagine some may find this to be a valuable extra due to the scarcity of the films. Finally, we get a booklet with an essay by Michael Bowen and a bunch of trailers for other Retro Seduction Cinema releases.
