1983 - 92m.

In 1973 director Charles B. Pierce delivered drive-in flick The Legend Of Boggy Creek which purported to be the true story of Sasquatch sightings in the small town of Fouke, Arkansas. Filmed to look like a documentary it went on to have decent success on the B-movie circuit and jumpstarted Pierce's career in the low-budget world. In 1977 came the kiddie oriented sequel Return To Boggy Creek starring Dawn Wells of Gilligan's Island fame. Pierce had nothing to do with the sequel and obviously didn't view it as part of the series of films as he's titled this, his 1983 effort, Boggy Creek II: And The Legend Continues...

Pierce takes one of the main roles in the movie for himself playing a college professor who decides to gather together a handful of his students (his son, Chuck, gets to play his only male student, Tim) and head on down to Texarkana, Arkansas (also the setting of Pierce's best known film, 1977's The Town That Dreaded Sundown) in order to look into sightings of the now legendary "Boggy Creek Monster". Soon enough people start telling them all about the creature, Pierce throws out some flashback moments showing previous attacks, and our gang of mostly inept "researchers" find themselves being harassed by not only a rabid dog (by far the cheesiest moment here with a common dog with foam slathered on its face trying to look menacing while Pierce's character shoots a gun through the floor of a cabin) but also by our sasquatch creature and what we can only assume is its young child.

A harmless "Down South" low-budget horror sequel, Boggy Creek II isn't really that bad, it's just a pretty uneventful time peppered with a few mild monster attacks, a finale that's nothing more than ho-hum, too many scenes that are much too dark, and an over-abundant use by director Pierce of red hats with "Arkansas" emblazoned on them (in case we forget where the movie is set, I suppose). And what's with the pointless flashback of someone getting his foot stuck in the seat of the outhouse?

Of Pierce's two "Boggy Creek" features you'd be better of sticking with his original, but if you like unintentionally humorous horror then you might enjoy this dopey sequel.

DVD INFORMATION

Picture Ratio: 1.85:1 Widescreen.

Picture Quality: Elite's transfer here is pretty mediocre as it doesn't look much better than VHS quality due to being full of film wear lines, grain, and fuzziness. It could've looked a lot worse, but it's still not great shakes.

Extras: Just a trailer that makes this look more exciting than it is.
