2004 - 91m.
TV

In a grudge match anticipated by no-one (okay, maybe by our very own Red at least) this takes the giant killer snakes seen in the two Python movies and in 2001's Boa in order to cash-in on the success of Freddy Vs. Jason (which it seems has started a new wave of "versus" movies - a trend that's hopefully short lived).

Despite the fact this starts with scenes of masked wrestling and the cast contains two former Playboy playmates this just fails to deliver on the promised visual from the box art (not that I expected it to match such a cool picture) and has a title fight that's nowhere to be seen until the last five minutes of the movie.

The plot just reeks of cheese as a rich businessman decides to transport a giant python to the States for him and his rich friends can hunt it only for it to get free. So in comes the government who hire a couple of scientists (David Hewlett and Jamie Bergman - Playmate # 1) to try and track the snake down using the giant Boa that Hewlett's conviently been raising. Did I mention they add implants to the Boa in order to have visual and try to control it?

Sure this has some mildly amusing attempts at humour, Angel Boris (Playmate # 2) having an extended nude scene early on, and a pretty morbid "make out" moment; but the entire thing is pretty low-scale stuff (which is quite evident during the lame hunting scenes), the acting is all-around weak (especially Adam Kendirck who's character at one moment gets to strip his shirt off in order to scream and yell while firing a machine gun), and the CGI snake effects are pretty crappy (they're better in the movies this is spun-off from). Plus the entire thing just feels like a cop-out on the part of the makers (where's my giant snake tussles dammit!) and the messy finale is really bad.

This marked the directorial debut for David Flores who just so happened to be editor of Boa AND Python 2 and was made for the Sci-Fi channel. (Chris Hartley, 9/19/04)
