Josh Robinson stars as a bitter video store clerk who thinks he has to sacrifice women in order to win the affection of the "muse of tragedy" Melpomene only to have an internal battle between fantasy and reality when he falls for Tina Krause and has to decide whether or not to "sacrifice" her.
Co-writer/director Terry M. West based this on his 1998 comic book series and has come up with a stunning vision that works extremely well thanks to the cynical narration, the fact it keeps up an unsettling tone for almost the entire running time, above average acting by the amateur cast, some disturbing moments (like when Robinson's character drags a half-naked escort back down a flight of stairs to her death) and a nice twist finish.
This is one heady look at a serial killer and is much more intelligent than you'd expect but at the same time has a sense of humour (as witnessed by the Indiana Jones inspired film our killer is always watching) which helps diffuse the fact this is one dark, dark movie.
After viewing this you have to ask yourself why West has gone on to almost exclusively do erotic horror films for Seduction Cinema (though his usually turn out better than most) when he could be making more fare like this.
