This slasher flick from Shadow Entertainment (an off-shoot of Full Moon) certainly starts off on the right foot with ample skin and two alright gore kills before the credits even role but soon it falls victim to what has plagued many a "modern" slasher movie by trotting out a "hot" young cast (headed by the always delectable Debbie Rochon) and piling on lots of stale, overly jokey dialogue.
Bleed comes off as a bearable time that mixes a standard hack 'em up with a sub-plot involving a Fight Club-like idea called a "murder club" (a joke people play on main character Rochon where they pretend they're part of a secret club that kills for fun - too bad she takes them so seriously) with Rochon giving her usual steady performance as a somewhat off-kilter woman who gets caught up in murder while a white masked killer is going around hacking people up.
Although the last twenty minutes are totally weak and there's a bunch of pointless cameos (Julie "we need more nudity" Strain, Brinke Stevens and Lloyd "I'm no actor" Kaufman); this isn't that bad with okay deaths (I personally liked the "throat spear" moment) and scripter Devin Hamilton (who also co-directed) coming up with an effective, if a little bit dumb, "murder club" sub-plot. It's not great, but there's worse out there. (Chris Hartley, 3/21/04)
