Adaptation of the comic book character has a pumped-up Wesley Snipes as the half-human/half-vampire vigilante of the title who sets out to slay "turned" vamp Stephen Dorff who's attempting to bring a vampire armageddon to Earth.

Slickly directed and with some neat effects and action sequences this is still somewhat disappointing and overlong with a script that starts off fine but eventually runs out of steam (and sense).

Snipes is pretty badass and Dorff makes an adequate baddie this just doesn't work on a whole due to the lopsided script. Some streaks of greatness (especially the opening nightclub massacre) can't rise this above an okay film that could've been so much better with a little extra tweaking.

Followed by two sequels.
