1977 - 91m.

"So bad, it's good" cult classic finds a new life on video with the 1995 release (by Disney no less!) that's an apparent "director's cut" (though it's completely missing a musical number set at an ad agency), has sketches at the beginning and end and even has co-producer/co-writer Dillon popping in during the movie to make a lame comment or two.

If you haven't seen this (and if not, shame on you) the country starts getting attacked by some blood-thirsty tomatoes and its up to Mason Dixon and his rag-tag group of "agents" to try and stop them. This joke-a-minute monster movie spoof actually turns out better than a lot of its fellow parodies and despite running out of steam in the final third manages to have a bunch of memorable moments (like the classsic "pass the ketchup" moment), a famous and sing-a-long title song and tons of digs at other films (Jaws, Old Yeller, etc.).

It may not be the best movie ever made but for the most part its pretty entertaining if you're looking for a night of cheesy "watch with a group of friends" fun. Hopefully if this ever gets a DVD release it will be put out in its original 87 minute form without all the extra junk here.

Followed by Return Of The Killer Tomatoes! and two other sequels - was also spun-off into a kids cartoon show.
